Our History
In 1984, a partnership was formed between Anita Monaco and Linda Borowski. The home business of Replacements for Dental Health was established. The two women, each at their own homes, shared running the young company. All the necessary licensure, federal, state and local requirements were met and the business began to grow. At the end of the year, Anita had other employment obligations, with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and with her family, and the partnership was dissolved. Linda became sole owner of Replacements for Dental Health.

In 1985, the home office consisted of a card table, an extension phone, an appointment book, a checkbook, 3 x 5 cards, and various desktop items. Linda began calling on dental offices in the area to inquire about their temporary employment needs and contacting hygienists that might be interested in temporary employment. There weren't any other licensed employment agencies specializing in dentistry and this new concept needed to be explained.

RDH would find dental hygienists (that met certain criteria) seeking employment and send them to dental offices (that met specific criteria) searching for an employee. It sounds so easy when written in one sentence. Interviews were conducted at local restaurants, dental offices, and at Linda's dinning room table. All the required information about schools attended, jobs held, and salary requirements were collected.

The important information about job experiences and job expectations was discussed. Then the task of find the right person the right job became the goal. This needed to be a positive experience so that we would continue to have staff available for employment.

The business continued to grow both in size and reputation. We found that the offices where we provided staff were pleased with how simple the process of working with us was. One phone call with a request provided staff willing to care for their patients. The trust and reliability of working with us increased with each positive experience. The new concept of using an employment service to supply staff in emergency situations kept the office running smoothly, eliminated patient rescheduling, and kept production at normal levels. The employees working with us had the unique opportunity to work in a variety of settings and learn new ideas and techniques to apply in their own settings.

In 1988, the demands of the company began to be more than a home business could handle and the decision was made to find office space. We rented our first space at 3503 Rochester Road in Troy. Up to this time, Linda had felt that if the business was not a success, she could unplug the phone, box-up the papers and walk away. Now by signing the lease a true commitment made. It was a big step. This was also the year that RDH Health Services became incorporated.

The next milestone came in 1989 when Theresa Beyer was hired as the first full time employee. Her position was created as placement assistant. Now, not only was there a monthly rent payment but the business had to be profitable enough to support two salaries. The two women became and team and RDH Health Services had it's most profitable year, a 55% increase. Our system was working.

Another change came in 1989. We began our OSHA compliance instruction. All our employees were required to attend a program that outlined all the OSHA guidelines and how to implement the safety requirements in our client offices. Since so many of our employees worked additional days with non-client dentist, we had requests from area dentists asking if we could present the same training for their staff. Our continuing education program was born.

We started our continuing education program with an annual seminar and added a few workshops each year. We currently run between 40 and 50 workshops and seminars. This has developed into an important part of our business.

We have never run out of ideas of ways to improve our service and to offer a variety of services to our employees and clients. We look forward to the future and great things to accomplish.

Over the years, so many people have said, "I thought of doing what you're doing. I just didn't take the first step." The first step is always the hardest, steepest, and the most rewarding.
